City Launches “Parents’ Night Out” Initiative to Support Bronx Caregivers
THE BRONX, NY — In an effort to provide much-needed relief and community backing to local families, the city has officially rolled out its new “Parents’ Night Out” program across the borough this July.
The program is specifically structured to offer parents and primary caregivers a free, trusted evening off by providing safe, supervised, and engaging recreational environments for their children. Running at select community hubs, the initiative allows parents to handle personal errands, rest, or enjoy an evening out while their children participate in structured group activities, arts, and games led by city-vetted staff.
Concurrently, healthcare programs like Montefiore’s Nurse-Family Partnership have also gathered local moms and caregivers for community support events in neighborhood sectors like Belmont. Organizers emphasize that bolstering parental mental health and expanding localized childcare safety nets are foundational to building stronger, more resilient Bronx neighborhoods.

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — New York City is giving parents a chance for a night off through a new pilot program that will provide free child care for hundreds of families next month.
Mayor Mamdani announced the launch of “Parents’ Night Out,” a city-sponsored program that will offer free babysitting for up to 500 children on Aug. 16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. Monday and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Every parent knows that a few hours to yourself can feel like a luxury,” said Mayor Mamdani in prepared remarks. “It shouldn’t be. That’s why we’re launching New York City’s first-ever Parents’ Night Out, so that parents can get a little time on their own to catch a movie, run errands or go on a date without worrying about who will take care of the kids – or how much it will cost.”
The program is open to families with children ages 6 to 13 and will provide free child care at designated city recreation centers.
City officials say the initiative is designed to give parents and caregivers a break while children participate in supervised activities.
The Aug. 16 event will serve as a pilot program, with space available for 500 children across participating recreation centers throughout the city.
Families interested in participating are encouraged to register as soon as enrollment opens, as spots are expected to fill quickly.
